With the passage of time and advancements in technology, AI systems continue to improve. AI language models like the one being used by ChatGPT throughout the years have been improving. They become more sophisticated and precise as they are fed more data and trained to be more accurate. Hence, it has been a challenge for professionals in various fields to determine whether the texts they read are generated by AI or written by humans. In this blog, let us explore some of the things you could look for in spotting AI-generated texts.
Look for repetitive or generic language
The answer that the AI system will give you depends on the amount of data stored in them. Sometimes, when you ask them a question, they have sufficient information to provide a comprehensive answer. They just use generic language or repeat things that you have provided. The system may generate paragraphs that have no relevance to the topic under discussion.
Lack of coherence
In assessing the work’s coherence, you must consider everything included in the text, which makes it time-consuming. However, the presence of irrelevant text is a clear indicator that AI wrote a text. Human is generally better at sorting out the sequence and thoughts in their works. Poorly integrated elements in an article signal that it was likely written by AI or that the writer’s performance is subpar.
Errors in grammar and punctuation
Check for errors in grammar and punctuation. An AI may commit mistakes that a human writer will not make. Sometimes, they even generate sentences that do not make sense grammatically. A lack of training can cause AI systems to produce sentences with grammatical errors, incorrect verb tenses, incorrect punctuation usage, and other faults.
There are no emotions in the texts
One thing AI is really bad at is including emotions and nuances in their texts. A human writer can manipulate the emotions and the angle of their pieces. They can opt to provide comprehensive descriptions of feelings and make the text written snappy or witty, depending on context. On the contrary, AI is tremendously straightforward and will directly give you the answer you were asking for. Although some AI systems are trained to apply tone, the text they generate still sounds robotic and unnatural.
The texts are unoriginal
This is another prominent weakness of AI-generated texts. Since the AI system gets its data from an existing pool of works, the paragraphs it will generate can be similar to that of its references. It lacks originality. Suppose you stumble upon a familiar article that looks like you have already read the same things somewhere. The possibility exists that AI generated it.
Final thoughts
Identifying generated text is difficult. I do not think there is a foolproof of determining them. Furthermore, it will get harder and harder to tell the difference between text produced by AI and text created by humans as technology progresses. For now, keep in mind the things we discussed above, and happy reading!
